The newly opened Valley Gallery designed by Tadao Ando is a small shrine-like structure, trapezoid in shape referencing the form of the valley it is positioned within. The interior of the gallery is an introspective space with apertures in the angular roof that let the surroundings into the gallery. This allows visitors to directly experience the movement of nature through sunlight, wind and seasonal change.

I intended to create a space that has the strength of crystal even though it is small.”

Tadao Ando

Installed both within and outside the gallery is Yayoi Kusama's Narcissus Garden. The multitude of mirror balls continuously reflect the surrounding landscape, elaborating on the connection between nature and art on Naoshima.
