    Project Designer

I studied Architecture at the Canterbury School of Architecture and I was was led to lighting design by crepuscular rays, Canterbury Cathedral and Olafur EliassonDuring my studies and after graduating I worked at Studio Glithero where I gained on-site experience. I have worked in lighting design for 7 years and have worked on projects such a Renault showroom and for Endo Lighting Corporation.

I joined Speirs Major in 2022 and have worked on various projects including retails developments in China, a cultural institution in Hong Kong and a hospitality project in Japan.

I am also an active member of The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan, where I stay updated on the latest developments in lighting technology and design.

I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and insights, and I occasionally write articles on lighting design and contribute to teaching experiences. My long-term aspiration is to explore the fascinating relationship between light design and faith, particularly within religious architectural projects.

Maki speaks Japanese and English fluently.
