Mayumi Yasuda
Senior Designer
I studied Architecture at the Kanto Gakuin University, Yokohama before completing a degree in the Built and Visual Environment at Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tokyo. My passion for light was sparked by my studies and the way lighting can impact unconsciously on the human environment.
I joined Speirs Major as I was interested in continuing to develop my design creation and collaboration skills whilst working on international projects. My work challenges me to think deeply and critically about lighting design as a professional, pushing the boundaries of my creativity.
I have worked on a diverse range of projects including public realm and workplace projects in Australia, a cultural institution in Hong Kong and a retail development in China.
In addition to my work at Speirs Major, I have been a part-time teacher at Chiba Institute of Technology since 2020. This role allows me to share my knowledge and passion for lighting design with the next generation of designers and architects. I am also an associate member of the IALD.
